‘Little Women: The Musical’ hits the stage at Players Circle Theater in Fort Myers
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Players Circle Theater has a three-fold mission: To create a home for a variety of theater employing an ensemble of professionals; to become an outlet for community involvement in the arts; and to enrich, educate and entertain our community with classes and performances.
Players Circle Theater, which moved from underneath a tent at the old Shell Factory, has been in its new location along McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers, celebrating its third year. “Good Morning Gulf Coast’s” Jason Drew was there Thursday with a backstage look at the theater and an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at its current production of “Little Women The Musical.”
Based on Louisa May Alcott’s 1868-69 semi-autobiographical two-volume novel, it focuses on the four March sisters — traditional Meg, wild, aspiring writer Jo, timid Beth and romantic Amy — and their beloved Marmee at home in Concord, Massachusetts, while their father is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. Intercut with the vignettes in which their lives unfold are several recreations of the melodramatic short stories Jo writes in her attic studio.
Full of showstopping melodies and uplifting spirit. This timeless tale about the enduring power of family is guaranteed to capture your heart.
Associate Artistic Director Ted Wioncek spoke with Drew about the theater, their mission and their current production. Kimberly Suskind, who plays Jo March, talked about performing on stage at Players Circle and her role.
Gulf Coast News was even treated to an exclusive performance. Enjoy the full company performance of “Weekly Volcano Press” in the video above.
